wrexxer, it won't kill your impellor to run it for 30 secs without water nor will it hurt the powerhead.....that being said it's not a good idea to continue to do that to the impellor.....as you can see by bass addicts nice photo there is more damage done just by twisting it in the cup and bending the blades or by turning it backwards in the cup.....hopefully bass addict was changing it being an 07 motor it probably has over 150 hours on the impellor...and he was doing good routine maintenance...if you stabilised the fuel system with a good marine stabiliser you don't have to drain the carbs or fuel system....all efi motors and dfi motors the fuel stays in the rails it must be stabilised though.... :D
