Heard a strange whirring sound yesterday when getting out of the car at home. Checked my truck, nope, coming from my boat. The heavy rains had accumulated on my cover, causing the cover to sink onto the front deck. While sinking, the cover hit the high bypass on the foot control. Strange noise I could hear was my electric motor prop cutting through my boat cover. The motor was extremely hot, and I have about a 8" tear in the cover.

I am about 3 days away from having my garage completed, and the boat was not sitting level where I had to park it. Guess I learned a lesson from this.

been there done that. got the t shirt... hard lesson learned.. I now switch the main power off at the breakers. My last boat didn't have these breakers so I had some made now I will never show up to the lake with a dead battery again.......\/\/\/\/\/\

Had a Princecraft and when it rained the swithches would fill with water(no cover) and short. Go out in the morning to hear a faint whirring and then try to find it. One morning no noise because the battery was dead. Get to ramp couldn't trim up motor. Went back home to charge the battery as it would have been too much for motor charging system to handle.
Check the wiring on the trolling motor as I have seen them have problems later on because of overheating. May have gotten hot enough to melt wiring insulation.

I had an old motorguide do the same thing a while ago. The wiring underneath my pedal was where most of the heat related damage occured. Check it out.

Got the cover patched next day. Checked out the pedal, all looks good. Tested the motor in the water Monday evening, worked fine.
Most damage done was to my ego

My marine guy told me he has never heard of this happening, and the cover girl (2 words, not covergirl

)said the same .
