Oil leak after fogging

Post by bullseye »

I picked up my boat from the Dealer last week. When I picked it up, the service tech showed me how to fog the motor by warming it up, shooting the fog oil in each cylinder (90HP Merc - 2 stroke), then cranking it a few times. This is a brand new unit that had been stored inside (heated) this winter until I picked it up. I store it in an unheated garage here in NY. When I went in today to work on setting things up inside the boat, I noticed a small amount of oil had leaked out of the prop exhaust area. Could this just be fogging oil from the winterizing or should I be concerned?? The oil spot is about the size of my palm. I'm going to call the dealer in the morning but I thought I would ask you guys as well......

I'm not an expert but it would not concern me.

The exhaust exit is down there and with the 2stroke there is always a nice oily residue.

Thanks!! I have a 2 stroke mech. friend who was nice enough to come over tonight and look at it. He concurs that it is only excess fog oil. I also called the dealer who calmed my fears as well. I'm kind of a neat freak and when I saw oil on the floor under my NEW boat, it did not make my day! (my blood pressure is now normal again!) Thanks again!
