DC all weather power outlet

Hey folks, I bought an DC power outlet so I can run my handheld GPS (iFinder H2OC) off my my main battery.

I was thinking that I would wire it into by Aux. switch with my Finder. Is this a pretty straight thing or do I risk screwing up my electrical. Also, do I risk interference between the two units. They are both Lowrance.

I have a 2005 Lund Rebel dual console in case anyone is familiar with the set up.

I'm not the most mechanically inclinded guy but I'm not a complete klutz either. That being said I would probably rather have someone else do it if the cost isn't too high.

I'm in Orleans.

If you have a cigarette lighter or chart light at the dash, you should get that adapter and just plug it in there, and also do you not mean DC?

There you go, pointing out probably the biggest reason I shouldn't be doing this myself.

You are absolutely correct what I want to do is install a DC Power Outlet.

My GPS has a cigarette lighter adapter but I do not have a Power Outlet on my boat.

I'll update my original post.

If it was me, I would get a heavy duty cig lighter adapter of high quality installed in a dry area if possible ie. under dash or something so I could use spotlight if needed (which may require a fuse up to 20 amps) and also cell phone, coffee maker, coolatron cooler, etc

Canadian Tire has a marine version DC outlet for $10. Looks well made and waterproof. I'll be installing a couple myself this summer to plug in a couple of cup warmers for my fall muskie fishing.

That's the plan. The outlet I purchased is supposed to be weather proof. Spring loaded cover with a gasket. Just trying to figure out how to hook it into the existing power supply.
