Power trim gauge not working properly!

Hi
I have a yamaha F50 1999, motor on my boat and the power trim gauge is not reading what is actually. When the motor is completely lowered the gauge shows that it is at 1/4 from the bottom on the gauge.
Does anybody know what could be causing this and how do I fix it. It worked fine last year.
