I put a 40lb Minn Kota Maxxum on the back of my wc 14 Lund this year and I was wondering how good they are in the weeds. I have never used one before and I don't want to go full tilt into the slop only to find out that I am now stuck. Do they really chop there way through the heavy slop? Is there anything else that I should know about Minn Kotas and the slop?
I just bought a minnkota 40lbs too to put on the transom, used a couple of times but not in the very thick stuff. I have a nice spot to try out but theres alot of slop around it. So I'm with you with this one
i have a 55lb maxxum
went throiugh very thick weeds,
when it was in use, it would say recharge.. but at the end of the 10hr fishing day of intense use, i check the charge at home and it's at 10.5 of the original 12...
I dont think any trolling motor is weedless. I know you can get weedless props etc for them which will help but if the slop gets thick enough you will get bogged down. A lot of it has to do with motor size and weight that its pushing, a 40# on a 14 foot tinny might be ok because it will still be pushed even when the motor is bogged down a little while a heavier boat you will notice a difference. I have heard that minkota is the way to go if you do fish in the weeds a lot though.
