Minn Kota and the slop

Hi Everyone,
I put a 40lb Minn Kota Maxxum on the back of my wc 14 Lund this year and I was wondering how good they are in the weeds. I have never used one before and I don't want to go full tilt into the slop only to find out that I am now stuck. Do they really chop there way through the heavy slop? Is there anything else that I should know about Minn Kotas and the slop?
As always. Thanks for the help,
High Noon

Hopefully the 40lbs is a lot better than the 30lbs for you guys , cause the 30lbs is almost useless.

I dont think any trolling motor is weedless. I know you can get weedless props etc for them which will help but if the slop gets thick enough you will get bogged down. A lot of it has to do with motor size and weight that its pushing, a 40# on a 14 foot tinny might be ok because it will still be pushed even when the motor is bogged down a little while a heavier boat you will notice a difference. I have heard that minkota is the way to go if you do fish in the weeds a lot though.

Bring a paddle with you. If you can't get out with the motor, use the paddle as a push pole or a paddle.

I just got a motor from Canadian Tire and it says its a 36/36. I hear everyone talking about the 40LB. Am I an idiot for getting this 36?
I just bought an old, 61 aluminum run about, that I wanted to use to get into lake fishing after my Canoe time.
Comments please.

I have a Minn Kota 36 on my 14ft aluminum and I am quite happy with it.
