I have a Humminbird 565 that I really enjoy...easy setup, great contrast, has a temperature reading...Le Baron sells them for $240

Any opinions on Lowrance X96 ?

I have a Lowrance X40 that I bought over 20yrs ago...it's on my pontoon boat and I really only use it as a depth finder because it never really worked well at marking fish...

From the posts I've read lately about all the problems with Lowrance units, and having to pay $140 and up to get warranty work done or replacements...I wouldn't buy another one...

That's just my opinion....

I had the Eagle version of the x96 on my last boat, it didn't have as many options as the x96 but is essentially the same unit. It was very reliable and easy to use. I wish i had kept it! I have a Lowrance X51 (valued at about $199) at the front of the boat and it works well. I have used Eagle/Lowrance units of all price ranges and never had trouble. I currently have a Humminbird unit at the console worth $2200 and have had several issues with it, it's only three months old. I'm still working on having it serviced under warranty so can't report on the quality of the service yet. At this point I would probably not buy anything else but Lowrance again.
Just my opinion.
PS The features of the Hummingbird997 are great and it is easy to use, it's the reliability/quality I have had trouble with.

Another option I got is Humminbird 575

I have been through four fishfinders in the past 16 months, I started with a Bottomline it was okay but I would lose bottom at 15MPH. I had a Lowrance X85 it was not very sensitive. I could not filter out surface clutter. My wife gave me a Humminbird 997c for my birthday. I havwe had many fishfinders and GPS units over the years I have never had one that was as easy to use or as accurate as this unit. I fish on the Kawarthas and have talked to many anglers this year those that have Humminbird units are happy. If you look on Ebay you can pick up some really good deals at this time of year. I have the hummingbird 787, so far I'm pleased with it, excellent resolution, very user friendly.

I have a Humminbird Matrix 97 and 77C. Super clear and very user friendly. I've had Lowrance and eagle in the past. They were OK but nothing like these for sensitivity, clarity and ease of use. Highly recommend them.[/b]

So..., finally got new Humminbird 575
Installed and it works great except that when the boat goes
faster than 10MPH I get excessive spray from the transducer
I moved it high as possible without drilling new holes to the transom
but it didn't help much. Should I make spray guard or take the risk
and re-drill new set of holes ? I hate to ad any more hole to brand new boat ( DeepV)

If you're going to drill new holes, fill the old ones with Lepage marine epoxy.

I found couple other 575 users with spray from quadrabeam transducers
and moving it up didn't help.
Anyone installed splash guard ?
Can't find any pictures.

I have a humminbird 220. I had the same problem with spray. I had to install very high on the transom. I would say you most likely need to drill new holes and bring it up some more.
