Hey Folks!

It is legal to fish in Quebec with a Ontario fishing licence or not?

Not legal unless you fish Border waters like the Ottawa River

Even when fishing the Ottawa river the licensing system isn't clear. If you're fishing from shore on the Quebec side you can fish with a full Ontario license but not a conservation license. Apparently the Quebec wardens don't recognize the conservation license. The easiest way to stay out of trouble would be to spend the $50 on a Quebec license.

I know this is not about fishing but it relates...How about duck hunting? I have my Ontario papers, stamp etc..can I launch here in Aylmer and duck hunt on the river? Anyone know for sure?

Duckin' and fishin' are two different species.
You need a Non-resident licence to hunt in QC if you are from Ont. Other way around if you are a resident of QC and want to hunt in Ont.


Now if the duck is swimming in Lake St Francois,say around Rivere Beaudette, and is bit by a musky and towed over to Bainsville, where you happen to be fishing for musky, and you hook the musky, well......forget it, this is giving me a headache.

Doesn't matter where you launch from on border waters, or what license you have , the only thing is that you have to know the regulation for both provinces. Cause if you are fishing on the Quebec side you have to follow the Quebec rules and if you fish on the Ontario side you have to follow the Ontario rules.

Example if you get onto the ice on the Ontario side of the Ottawa river with an Ontario license you can fish any where but if you are fishing on the Ontario side of the border(as printed on all maps of the Ottawa river) then you are only allowed 2 lines but if you cross over to the Quebec side of the river you can still fish with your Ontario license but you have to follow the Quebec regulations( meaning that you can now fish with 5 lines).

But if you are using live minnows on the Quebec side of the river you can only use minnows that were bought in Quebec. Ontario side doesn't have any regulations like that. I know that this doesn't make much sense cause there is no borders for fish.


By the way if you are anchored exactly on the border I guess it depends on what side of the boat you fish on.

I heard the Quebec CO's were strictly enforcing the minnow regulation on the Ottawa up at Swisha this year.
