in the 25 to 30 hp range, what are the differences between the two? I've checked the specs, and it seems that the bigfoot has a larger-sized lower unit, which might cause increased drag on a 15 foot aluminum boat, but I would think not too significant a differnce? Weight seems the same too. Am I missing something, or can you use the bigfoot 25 hp on a smaller fishing boat?

The Big Foot Mercury and the High Thrust Yamaha outboards were developed for use with pontoon boats. They use a larger lower unit with a different gear ratio to give more torque and thrust in un clean turbulent water created by water coming off two hulls (pontoons). They are also developped to work with high thrust props.
Use a regular 4 stroke and not the Big Foot for an aluminum boat. Also Mercury is not producing a 25hp version of the Big Foot for 2008. They only start at 40hp now.
