I just bought and small jon boat and will be turning it into a bass rig with and trolling motor, platforms, pedestal seats and i need advise on a small out board. It says it only rated for a 3hp but i could probably row faster than a 3hp. Could I strengthen the transom and go with something bigger or is that a bad idea? Is it worth saving money and investing in a older tiller? Any advise would be apprecaited

Thanks, Ian

If it's only rated for a 3hp I wouldn't put much more than that on it.

Hi
If the jon boat is only rated fro a 3 hp then it is probably one of the small ones (10 or 12 feet). Check the manufacturer load weight suggestions before you add too much and watch that your weight distribution does not get too high when you add a platform for your seat or if you are standing.
Of course you may not weigh as much as some people but safety is important.
