Anyone are familar with yr.1999 Evinrude Ficht (200 HP)? I search web. This Yr Ficht motor seems a troublemaker, therefore the price is cheap.
How you think?

I own a 1998 115 Johnson FICHT and have had problems and done lots of research.rickr wrote:Anyone are familar with yr.1999 Evinrude Fiche (200 HP)? I search web. This Yr Fiche motor seems a troublemaker, therefore the price is cheap.

The FICHT was introduced in 1998, HP above 115 have had a lot of problems and may be linked to the collapse of the company and eventual buy-out by Bombardier.
The FICHT technology was designed to make the engines run faster and hotter using less gas and oil.
There was a redesign done in 2000 followed by the release of the E-Tech engine.
Models above 115 and from years 1998 to 2000 are timebombs waiting to go off. OR if you are an optimist, if it hasn't blown by now it is probably OK.
My best resource is http://bbcboards.zeroforum.com/zeroforum?id=51
My personal best advice, spent $200, take it to a reputable Johnson / Evinrude dealer (not the dealer you are buying from) and have it checked out.
I have heard people say that this motor has ZERO trade in value.
The top local mechanic works at Pirates Cove Marina.
Good Luck.
