Boats wiring?

Ok I decided to add a bow mount sonar/gps unit to my boat. Now Its time to wire the unit up. FUN
My boats wiring system is just not really ment to expand any more. I have a starting battery that is connected to my main motor. There are aprox. 6 other connection placed on the battery via a threaded style terminal. ie. VHF radio, Sonar. I dont like this setup at all. There are many inline fuses and nothing is marked. So Im going to install a fuse block under the console and run everything to it. Why dont these boat companys do this from the start? Cost????
Im thinking of using Blue Sea's 12 position fuse block? Anyone done this before? Any tips or advise would be great.
