Hi all,

Had a quick question about boat and motor ratings.

I bought a 1970 Tri Hull Canbar Bowrider 3 years ago that came with a 1970 115 Evenrude.

I never had a second thought about it. Changed the registration over to my name gave the motor a tune up and away we went and all is well except.

I happened to look at the information plate on the boat and the boat is rated for a 110hp.

I guess my concern is, what if any will be the consequences of having a 115hp motor on a boat rated for a 110hp motor.

Shouldn't be a big difference in weight, so no real physical issue.

But your insurance company won't like it.

Insurance??? Do you have to have Liability insurance?? ( sorry sounding a little new here)

You don't need it but you should have it. Do a search here on insurance and you'll find a lot of information and various insurance companies. I went with http://www.marineexpert.ca $400/year and piece of mind.

Thanks will look into it, but still wondering what the OPP or Durham Regional Police will have to say about it when and or if I get stopped.

It is not illegal but like it was said Insurrance company will not like it.

that motor likely came on that boat when new,I don't think it will be an issue,probably will need a marine survey,to obtain insurance,due to age of the boat.
