Hi,

I've been looking into getting a more modern fishfinder. I think Lowrance or hummingbird are the two main manufacturers I'm interested in. The 788 series seems to fit my needs and budget. There are a few different models that have "ci" or NVB added. The hummingbird site doesn't explain differences too much. Additionally, the I'd like to know if anyone has one and how do they like it?

Tks for any help.

NVB is Navionics Value Bundle...not sure what charts are included in that...you should find out in advance though as most of those "inclusive" things tend to be US

C vs Ci ....I'm going to GUESS that the difference in Internal antenna for GPS vs needing an external. That is just a guess though...looking at the specs i couldn't see a differnece in the 2 units

"ci".....the "c" stands for color screen and the "i" stands for internal GPS....

As Andy said, the NVB is for preloaded Navionics maps. This bundle is great if you are South of the border, but useless up here. On the '09 and later 788ci's, the internal antennae is mounted at the front of the casing so you can still flush mount them in your dash. I now probably sell 3 internal antennae units for every external one.

I have them in stock at Paddletales.

As well, for anyone looking for a gold Navionics chip, the 2010 models have taken a jump in price due to they now cover all of Canada as well as Alaska. If you can find an '09 chip buy it.

I think they will be in the high $200.00's taxes in, but I won't be able to nail down the price exactly until they are in, which will probably be late this month.

Thanks for the information...

How much would the 788ci cost at your shop out the door if you don't mind? You could pm me if you want. Also, I have a friend who may be offering to sell me his 798 (?) unit. It looks the same but has the sidefinder option which I don't want really. It doesn't work well on a 5" screen I've read and other stuff. What is your opinion on buying a pre-owned unit like this? Do you recommend another brand that is comparable to the 788ci? I'm open to suggestions.

Regards,

Mike
