Pedestal on Pontoon boat

Hey guys and gals,

It's been forever I haven't been on this site but when it came to finding a trust worthy opinion/answer from people I can relate to (from the same country and most likely same province and area - Ottawa region) I could only think of this place... so here I am!

Here's the question - HOW MUCH ROOM IS NEEDED TO ACCOMMODATE A PEDESTAL SEAT ON A PONTOON BOAT?

I'm looking for something that can be my primary fishing boat, to troll, cast and still fish yet still be able to entertain guest and others (like my girlfriend) who may not want to spend a day in my little aluminum boat.

After some shopping at the Toronto Sportsman show, I came to the realization that unless I want to spend some big bucks, I'm not going to buy a "Great Lakes" type boat. I was hoping to find something like this http://www.princecraft.com/Content/en-U ... o-206.aspx

So... after some thinking and looking... I asked myself this question...

"IF I'M NOT GOING ON THE GREAT LAKES, WHY BUY ANYTHING OTHER THAN A PONTOON BOAT?"

This brings me to my current situation, I'm semi-seriously looking for pontoon boats with the dreamy images of the nice new Fishing Series Pontoon boats in mind. These pontoon boats have a railing that ends early leaving a casting deck in front in which you can put pedestal seats and an electric motor. While shopping the used ads I find some boats that have this platform but it looks small (most likely not intended for fishing).

IN YOUR OPINIONS, DO YOU THINK YOU NEED MORE THAN 2 FEET FOR A CASTING DECK ON A PONTOON?

Thanks,
