Hummingbird problems

I have a Hummingbird 141C colour depth finder with problems. Out of the blue the depth will start showing false depth in a erratic manner. I called Hummingbird and they have never heard of this problem. They suggested trying a new transducer but I would appreciate anyones input before I spend the money. Has anyone ever had this type of problem and found a solution.
Thanks

I have hear of that type of thing when you are using more than one finder. The beams step on each other and cause bizarre readings.
Check the transducer wire for any nicks, breaks or bulges. If you have it going through your hull, check there first.
See if there is a way to reset the unit to factory defaults.
Make sure that you are not on the same battery as your trolling motor. See if that makes a difference.
Good luck!

Do you have any friends with same unit, put theirs on your boat and yours on theirs and see what happens. Does it hppen at random times or when some other thing is going on.

Same problem with my 565 portable. I think its the transducer. When I get the false readings if I wiggle the wire at the puck most times it will correct itself. Just ordered new transducer from gpscentral in calgary.

Do the wires for the power, transducer etc come into a plastic holder that the fishfinder screen snaps onto? I find I occasionally have power or transducer problems because the plastic wiring bracket holder is not well designed, and the wires for the transducer, power and weather unit barely plug in, causing problems. I have tried to jerry rig the unit in various ways, but the problem still persists occasionally.
