Tie Bar for kicker

Hi
This summer I installed a kicker mount - the cantilever type. Works great, I now want to add a tie bar so I can steer with the main motor.
When the steering rod for the main motor moves, it is about 12" total stroke (+6 one way, -6 other way), because is is quite close to the main motor pivot point. It seems that the tie-bar will have to mount same distance from the pivot point on the kicker as on the main motor, to get the same angle of steering as the main motor.

However, due to the kicker bracket, the kicker pivot point is quite a bit further back than the main motor pivot. So the tie-bar will not be parallel to the transom.

I'm considering putting the tie-bar from the back of the main motor instead of mounting to the steering rod.

Anyone have any ideas on how this is best approached?

Hey L,

Can,t quite picture what your up to but I made my tie bar using some rod and a lawn tractor tie rod end. Used the metal v bracket that was on the main motor and made one for for the kicker. Attached the rod between the two. The tie rod end gives enough movement that I can leave the rod connected in all motor positions. I believe the difference in our setups is my kicker is mounted to the transom while yours is on the kicker mont bracket.

Get one of these. Just bend it to fit your application and your all set.

KC - Lawnmower tie rod ends - good DIY idea.
FH - Thanks for the info - Cabelas site was down, back up now - looks like that will do the trick.
