pedestal seat

So pedestal seats are on the christmas list and I've come to realize that I'm not really sure how they go on. I already have 2 spots (1 front, 1 back) that have the hole more or less for a seat. There's already a base of sorts there, but I think that's just there to cover the hole.
So I think I have to remove the "base", that's already there and install a pedestal base and attach the seat to the top? Am I right??
Thanks guys!

I'd call wherever you got the boat and discuss it with them.
OR........post a few pics of what you have for the board to comment on.
I have a spot for a pedestal in the front of my boat....however it really does takes up space on my casting deck and very rarely gets used.
Good luck,

Hi fisherguy;
From what I know a base either round or square (your choice)
is fastened to the deck where a hole has been created.
You then have to choose the proper seat shaft that you insert into the base.
There are many options as you must match with the base and hole size.
Your shaft can be many heights, so again it will be a choice. You will also need a base for the seat.
All seats are manufactured the same (4 screw locations under the seat) to mount onto the shaft, however Banana Bass seats are different.
Best to have your boat type with a photo of locations and come visit us at Laurentian. We have a great selection to choose from. However this time of the year, we order as required. Delivery to you would take no more than a week. You won't have to buy but we can set you on the right path.
And don't forget to mention that you are FHker.

Go to the Bass Pro Shops website to take a look at the two main kinds of different seat post receivers. Other sites have them for sale too.
It will show you unit to install and you'll be able to judge which is better for your setup.
I have one in the front of my boat and one in the rear. Mine are the smaller post holders and I usually have a pony seat up front to lean against rather than sit down on. I stand up most of the day when fishing.
Good luck.
