Hello all

Purchased a new to me boat this summer and am now wondering about winterizing and storage. There is no way I'm fitting it in the garage so I'm wondering if most of you store indoors or outdoors? I was thinking about having it shrink wrapped and stored. Are there any other options I'm not considering? Any comments on the Navigloo shelters? Any recommendations on a place to get it winterized and stored?

Before I built my garage i used to store my boat in a tempo. Just make sure to keep the snow off of it.

I bring it to the marina to have it winterized and then store in a barn. As i am not leaving it in the elements and the boat is a fishing boat, I do not get it wrapped.

My father on the other hand, has a tahoe deck boat with an inboard. He has it winterized and wrapped every year and stores it at the marina. This marina takes the lower units off and stores them inside all winter to 1. Keep them out of the elements and 2. reduce the likelyhood of the lower units getting stolen.

I haven't heard anything bad about the naviglue system and from what I saw at the boat shows, it is a well put together system.

Your main goal is to make sure there is no water in the motor (have the oils changed out) so it doesn't crack, stabilize the fuel so it doesn't seperate, and keep the snow out of the interior while still providing breathability. If the last one means using the cover that came with the boat and going out to shovel the boat off after a snowfall, so be it.

It all comes down to how comfortable you are with the options out there as there are many ways that will work. Some just work better than others.

I asked the same question a couple of yearts back and a wise fish hawker responded that while navigloo is a good option a tempo , for about the same price would allow you to access the boat and work on it while " staying Dry" in early spring...there are great opportunities for indoor storages around Ottawa as well as winterizing of your motor. look ok KIJIJI...some even come to your place and do the work.

If your engine is carburated I certainly wouldn't leave any fuel in the system at all. Run it dry and fog it for best protection. Fuel stabilizers are great for their intended usage but they do nothing to stop fuel from evaporating over time in your carb and leaving that shellac behind. Cheers

I fix a lot of problems from DIY winterisations........get your boat properly winterised and shrink wrap it .....those shelters work for a few years then fall apart.....or make your own but have it professionally winterised......each motor is different these days....DI's, EFI's, 2 stoke, 4 stroke they all have their own specific way they need to be winterised....having it done properly will save you money and down time in the long run......
