8 hp bp8a honda outboard motor (1997)

So this weekend my 8 horse Honda motor decided to quit on me a few kms from the launch. 
Was motoring along and out of the blues it stopped cold. Brought the motor home and tried to see if it fires and it has stopped firing.
just wondered if anyone knew what could cause the problem i am thinking it's the pick up coil that's burnt.Will try changing that part first off. Does anyone know what else could be the problem besides the pick up coil being burnt? Thanks in advance all info will be greatly appreciated. DANO
Called a Honda shop and they want my 4 nieces and 3 nephews to pay for it..... so any recommendations on a good honest guy who could test it and figure out the problem
