Motor dies at low idle, no choke and low speed

Post by andrew1234 »

Hi guys like title says. It runs well at fast speeds, but as soon as I bring it down to low speed, low idle and closed choke it does within 15 seconds. Any suggestions? It's been tuned up recently. Problem persisted before and after. It's a late 80s merc.

Thanks for taking the time to read this.

Regards, andrew

Sounds like a carb issue, run premium gas and get some sea foam, dump the can in your gas tank and run around the lake full out for a while it should help it, it worked wonders for me. if not get a carb tune-up,

"Closed choke"? Choke should be full open when motor is warmed up, if it's closed motor will flood.
