I practice C&R 99.9% of the time. But if I caught a world record, it would be a heart breaker but I would keep it for two reasons: monetary reward and proof. If you've read most of the musky pages, most fishing sites for that matter (all but this one of course) all they do is question and argue over the validity of every record fish. They know little about the event or the person who caught it but slam him and the boat he road in on.
So think about it - companies giving you free tackle and people paying you to stand up and tell them how you caught it. Throw in a few free beer at the bar and it sounds pretty danm good to me.

That is just an excuse people use to kill big fish. If that girl can only spawn one more time it would be worth releasing, man we need the most out of those fish.moondog wrote:SURE !!--it's probably not a good spawner anymore, and because of it's age it will be likely to die soon anyways.
We have no way of telling just how long a fish may live.
Catch and release them all

dana,
That's actually an interesting thought (about trying to keep it alive, not Markus eating it
).
Didn't someone recently do that with a very huge (record breaking?) catfish? Isn't it residing in some aquarium now?
I think that would be really hard with another kind of fish, unless you were purposely targeting the record and set up to house it immediately in some kind of enormous bathtub-sized livewell! Unlikely...?!

Isn't that the reason why you would let that 65lbr go?Trophymuskie wrote: If that girl can only spawn one more time it would be worth releasing, man we need the most out of those fish.

I honestly can't say what I'd do, the presence of such a monster might make me change my mind. I think I'd let it go, but I'd take 50 pictures and ensure at leat 10 people saw me weigh it.
