Here's an excerpt from a post from a fisherman after his recent trip to Quinte:
"Long leads, side planers, deep divers and snap-on weights are what worked for us. We were marking the fish fairly deep [40-50'] hence the addition of the snap-on weights. The big bugger came up with his air bladder in his throat, but a jab with the jackknife deflated it, and he took off for the depths with a huge swish of his tail."
What do you say or do you say nothing?
I'm not sure on how polite I would be on this one... but like Markus said; perhaps he just does not know any better...
Just checked and it look's like the problem is being addressed in the manner that it should be
I also learned something alot of you already know. I have never heard of Fizzing
... My education came from my POP, as he alway's said never to fish deeper than 30' of water, and you should not have a problem with a fishes bladder.

Hello,
I feel this is all about education...walleye are living deeper and anglers have the equipment to fish deep. If they fish deep they just have to keep what they catch. Otherwise fish shallow and release the fish.
The gentlemen that posted that information was asking a question and he thought that popping the bladder would help the fish survive, problem is unknown to him it sunk to bottom to die because it can not adjust it's bladder with a hole in it. He was fishing lake trout and had no problem releasing deep fish earlier in the summer with an outfitter, but he was also not aware of the different anatomies between walleye and lakers.
Through positive feedback and education we can make a difference as anglers, if we point fingers and try to stop fishing it will only harm the educated angler with the novice angler never getting the chance to learn proper fishing release techniques.
I would still like to see walleye catch and release posters at all of the Quinte Launches with warning information on fishing deep, fizzing and proper release methods. This can only help walleye in the long run on all bodies of water.

Launch info baords is a great idea ET. Our local angling club (Long Point Bay Anglers Association) just erected a lot of specie information boards at some of the popular launches around the bay.
There's plans to update them for next year too....stuff like limits for the specific zone and the suggestion was made for a little chinese too.

Educating, best pratice
I found this rather interesting to say the least. I guess my take on this is that we all have part and responsibility when fishing different tactics to know fully what you will encounter when hooking fish in all situations. If you have taken time to learn how or use different methods to hook fish then also learn how to handle and release these fish. Here is an article that could be useful for those who would like to know how its done. Although fizzing bass is not over used it is a practice that could help save a fish. Also there are releases methods included for other species that will also help anglers understand.
As you all know the Internet is a wealth of info. If ya can'f find it out there it certainly will be on this site now or very shortly.
I don't have the opportunity to post often but I must say the site has valuable information and lots of angler who have our sport in there best interest a credit to you all.

FYI He's not a local, he's from Toronto. I mentioned the issue of having signs with info at all launches last fall on the Quinte board,received one reply I believe. I realize money is tight for fishery concerns,but some plywood and paper is cheap. The lack of effort I can't understand.This is a world class fishery,why no respect from the people in charge and/or local interest?
