Fishing Regulation Changes for 2006 Signed
Department of Natural Resources Director Rebecca Humphries today signed several fisheries orders that will go into effect on April 1, 2006. Humphries signed the orders at the monthly meeting of the Natural Resources Commission.
The changes in the orders from the 2005 fishing season are:
******Another change includes allowing anglers to fish for bass during a catch and immediate release season prior to the possession season. Catch and release fishing will be allowed from the last Saturday in April through the Friday before Memorial Day in the Lower Peninsula including the Great Lakes and connecting waters, from the last Saturday in April through the third Saturday in June in Lake St. Clair, and from May 15 through the Friday before Memorial Day on Upper Peninsula waters including the Great Lakes and connecting waters. The opening day for harvest on Lake St. Clair remains unchanged. The previous regulation allowing catch and release bass fishing beginning April 1 on six lakes in the Lower Peninsula has been dropped.
For more information on these and other fisheries orders previously signed by Humphries, please visit the DNR Web site at www.michigan.gov/dnr, and click on the "Fishing" section.
The DNR is committed to the conservation, protection, management, use and enjoyment of the state's natural resources for current and future generations.

I don't and won't be fishin there so no skin offn my nose, but, it gets a thumbs down here too.
They start that nonsense around here, going to be a lot of flat tires in the parking lots.
A buncha bullshxt just for a few extra bucks.
No one has proven to my satisfaction (course they don't have to), that rippen them off the beds doesn't hurt.

I just wanna make a friendly suggestion. Don't say that on a message board because if it happens in your area and people start having flat tires or worse...you know who they will be looking at! Not to mention Walleye is ope and Pike is open so you may be out there fishin for them and something may happen to your tires....because they think your fishin bass.Jigs wrote:I don't and won't be fishin there so no skin offn my nose, but, it gets a thumbs down here too.

I think it ihas already been proven that this does not hurt the spawn. I am not sure on this I just think this is what I heard...
Can any one confirm?
I've heard both arguments, and aren't there always at least 2?

Maybe it's tough to prove that taking bass off their beds doesn't HURT the spawn, but it darned well won't HELP the spawn. I'd rather err on the side of caution. My 2 cents.

Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.

I know for sure that what ever the date maybe that bass opens I wil be out fishing for them. The majority won't speak on tha but the majority will do the same. The wait for bass season to open is almos unbearable for bass fisherman...Beside I think the Cormorants do much more damage than fisherman pulling them off thier beds...

bass
i live on st clair and am totally against this deal. . the canadian side is not of this ruling but, we are overrun for years with this deal. if this was a muskie issue the world would go upside down. the majority of users are from the u. s., michigan and once again have been violating our waters fishing oos bass. i know the argument is there released but think of the muskys, they are on spawn and the guys are not fishing walleyes in the lake yet so the only losers will be incidental, mis-handled musky catches on spawn. just my 2 cents but when you see what goes on you would puke
