new to float fishing

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Post by fullofgas »

hey i have just this year turner to float fishing..i was a avid bottom bouncer on the niagara as i live 5 mins away..in the last few yrs i have heard everone turing to float fishing so i decided to give it a try..man i tell you i feel like i have been missing out on some great fishing....i got myself a okuma aventa late last year and never got to try it much but this has been different..i got my 1st bow on the bronte on a pin this year.what a thrill..now i have sold the aventa and bought a sheffeild... :) now i see everone using jigs..so now im learning to tie them.like i did when bottom bouncing i tied streamers..so i would like some feed back on the first jigs i have tied for float fishn..

They look great FoG!

Anyone that fished with me on the Niagara last year, might remember those awesome streamers I was using. I believe fishhawk even snaped a pic of one and included it in his Niagara Fish Hawk Show story. Well, Rob tied all those for me. If his Jigs work half as well as his streamers, then he can count on me mooching a few from him!

Hey FOG
glad to see you still kicking around. Those were great flies you tied. I appreciated the help you gave me on how to shore fish the drift at Queenston.
Those new jigs sure look good too. Hope you give info on "how to" with them
Maybe I can talk you into a little demo on what equipment is needed and how to tie them. (wheres an arm twisting smilie)

all you need basicly is the same tool used for streamers the hooks are jig hook then you attach a bead to it and tie on a body thier really pretty simple
to make and with the jig hook it swims in the water like a minnow :)

FOG,

I don't know anything about float fishing, though there are several people on this site who avidly pursue it, but I have to say, those are neat looking little jigs. I just love the colors, and I'll bet the fish will too.:D

W.
Thanks, Dad, for taking me fishing when I was a kid.

Jigs look pretty kick butt to me!!!!!I fish 80% of my time with jigs.Such a versatile bait, and will produce in all weather cons, and shine when the roe bite is dead!

If your floatin em per say in slower pools, try givin the float a tiny twitch every 5 to 10 seconds to give the bait life in the slower water

But for a 1st attempt they look great!

Maybe we'll see ya on the Bar this winter :D
