Planning A Sunday on McLaren Bay

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Planning A Sunday on McLaren Bay

Post by McQ »

Planning a Sunday on McLaren Bay.

There are big shacks for rent including firewood.

Great crappie & perch fishing.

Incidental LB too and the odd Pike.

A Quebec conservation license is only $10

Come 1 - Come all

I think the 22nd would be ideal, say 10:00 am - 3:00 pm but I'm open to suggestions. This weekend & next are out for me - have to go up to the Gouin Reservoir.

A good day and 2 fishermen can fill a 5 gal pail with crappie & perch.

Makes for a great fish fry.

...I will be there on Tuesday all day....It as been verry slow for the past month @Mc laurin Bay...things are starting to change though. Last year all was good for December...this year I don't know what went wrong. I heard the same stories outside Mc Laurin Bay on the Ottawa River.

Since I will be free from the kids next week back to school (thank God!) I will put all efforts fishing...the right way on the right days!!!

I was there today talking to my intel and he said to me that things where starting to pick up at a few spots.(the same spots that where dead a few weeks a go and I mean dead!!!...I expect fishing @ Mc Laurin Bay to be @ its best 3-4 days before the full moon.....and I will be there!!!!

My intel will have a full report of pikes and LMB activities for me on Tuesday and I should hit hard all key points....I leave the perch and crappies out of the equation.

I will use what I call the ''bring in the box technics'' wich is a special way of setting up Windlass Tip'ups around a jigging rod.

I will report all about it next week with pics....

....Biggest pike caught @Mc laurin since opening 2 weeks a go was 8 pounds...a few six pounders also.....there was one spot that did well last week over 7 pikes where caught by one fisherman in 1 day...

There was also a few reports of guys missing 10+ pounds at the hole
or having there line snaped by bigger ones!

Now we all know by now that 15+ pounders are swiming in there.

They have a deck of pictures at the main shack...if you guys ever go to Mc Laurin this winter ask to see those photos!!! LMB in the 4+ and pike
in the 15 pounds range are waiting for you @Mc laurin in winter time!!

Timing and the right spot is all you need to get a thrill in the chill @ mc Laurin Bay!

... I would also like to mention that there is a limit on perchs on the Quebec side.......50 per day I think.....and Mc laurin bay is more a perch bay than a crappie bay.

Perch limit - 50

Crappie limit - 30

You'll find the concentrations of crappie in different areas than perch, though at times working from the bottom up can produce both specie with the odd bass & pike too. I do my best to avoid the bass & pike because I have no intention of keeping them. Exposure to freezing elements can kill one of these beauties pretty quick.

Lived on Notre Dame St for 6 years - the bay was my backyard.

I'm off to the Gouin Reservoir for a few days. Hopefully when I get back there will be a bit more interest in this planned day out.

BB444 you're saying that they don't have pictures of all your +5lbers.
When hell freezes over, I'll be there icefishing!!!
