Aother day on the Bayou..be warned...GRAPHIC PICS!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Aother day on the Bayou..be warned...GRAPHIC PICS!

Post by Mikey »

Scummer and I made our way down to the Boucherville Bayou this morning after many weeks of lighting candles for the ice gods to grant us some weather that would allow us to get out and slay the shack nasties that have invaded our lives of late. So here's how our day went...

The ice was quiet today....not many people out...but the weather was awesome...spring like conditions.... Scummer started hitting football size slabs...
Image

I left my perch rod at home...I was focused on the pike...and they didn't disappoint us..
Image

There were deer everywhere today...they were up and active in the warm sun
Image
Image

Another nice pike (7.6) ....

Image

Scummer with a pike! Note: After landing this pike, Scummer had a hemorage from a small cut....I had a critical decision...save Scummer...or chum.....The decision was easy....CHUM! so I had him put his hand in the hole and used the blood to attract some sharks....
Image

low and behold....
Image

Another nice slab from the Slabking...
Image

This one fellow showed up and ...took 3 hours to setup his clam and about 4 tip ups....he had everything you could ever wish for with him,, Clam...gas auger...stove...pots and pans...you name it...he had it....he sorta resembled a Sherpa guide hauling this stuff onto the ice...
Image

This pike had a chunk out of his back...very strange...usually you see hem with marks on their sides....
Image

The Sherpa built a live well and was getting his stove going when we left...we gave him a few of our pike to feed the crowd...
Image

As mentioned earlier...the deer were everywhere....this one let me get pretty close....as she took in the sun...
Image

On our way off the ice..we noticed something that didn't look right...when we got closer...we saw nature at work...
Image

Coyote's had taken this deer. The tracks were everywhere...the critical blow...
Image

This shot shows the initial hit and path of the ensuing struggle..
Image

It's a sad sight to see but, nature takes care of itself by eliminating the week so the breed survives...another day on the Bayou came to an end...Scummer and I went home...tired...but pleased...now Scummer is hounding me on MSN after having a few too many beer to get his blood count back up......I love fishing hehehe!!

Mikey,

Beautiful shot; a future screen saver for me, after I get bored of looking at my horse!

Image

As for the unlucky deer...hey, it's nature. I do feel a twinge when I see it, but it's the natural ebb and flow of life. Any wolves around those parts?

Back to the fish: great day to be out, wasn't it? The pictures say it all!

The "Sherpa" dude was one serious dude about creature comforts!

Yes definitely one to remember :D.Damn blood thinning pills caused a simple small hook in the finger to bleed for hours :) . I had a great time nailing the Pannies including 6 the same size about 9 inches as shown in Mike's pics. :D. Real slabs :D

The neighbors Pike was a Beaut at 30 inches and close to 8 pounds. He even nailed a pike and Perch at the same time. :D .

He invited us to shore lunch but we were leaving r.

A great day thinking about tomorrow.

None that are know of...but there is a signifigant population of coyotes.

That's for sure hehehe! Nice fella, very sociable...he had a crowd with him. Great company, great weather...and fish...what else could you want? hehehe!!

P.S. Wolfe...I'm a former owner of 2 quarter horses... I share your passion...worked at the auction barn in Vankleek Hill when I was young showing the horses in the coral there...swapped my pay for the 2 horses....

Great report Mikey, but what's the deal with the fence around the live well? Keeping the fish in or something else out

Ed, the fence is there to warn guys who are riding on the ATV's that there's a hole there. Otherwise it's over the handlebars you go hehehe!! And when the little ones come by, they treat it like an aquarium

Great report guys, looks like a fun day. I was at crappie bay yesterday for the last time this year! Looks like we figured out were all of our pike have migrated to, just need to figure out where all the pannies went (probably to RJs shack) :) ! To add to the worst day I have ever had there my gas auger pull cord broke. I thought it would be easy to fix but when I took it apart the recoil was broken too. :( I was going to go for walleye this morning but the thought of manualing drilling through 2' of ice wasn't appealing. Guees I am getting spoiled  !
