Bronson Bridge

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Between Billings Bridge and the Bronson Bridge, there have been some decent sized muskie caught over the years.

Billings bridge was good to me last year. One night I had my fly rod gear. I had just headed back to cross the bridge heading south when I say under the bridge there was a calm pool. I thought to myself "that looks like a decent spot to hold fish". After two casts I started to reel in a little rock bass. Out of nowhere this dark shadow emerges and devours my rock bass. This pike was 8lbs+ and now had my rock bass and fly and was casually swimming off. I tried to gently draw him into the shallows to catch him, but a couple head shakes and he was off. Pretty cool to see no more than 5ft from me. A couple ofweeks later I caught a 5lber wading through the rapids on the west side of the bridge. Good times there for sure.

I'm actually amazed at all the Urban Fishing spots we have here in the Ottawa area. At one point in time there were a few folks working on documenting these spots, however I suspect due to other priorities, the project has taken a back burner. I did however notice that the MNR is starting to report on Urban Fishing. They've got a few spots on their website. Who knows, perhaps we'll look into this again and see if we can't come up with something that will be useful to all of us.

Hello All,

I'm working on a large feature for Ontario Out of Doors magazine that will showcase the Top Ten spots for Urban Fishing in Ottawa. Maps, diagrams and photos, as well as helpful tips will all be covered in the piece.
Publication should be this summer or early fall...

Good Fishing,
Justin

Hey Guys,

Don't worry - all the spots covered will be well-known spots, so there will be no honey-holes shared for all to see. The feature will take on more of a family-orientated guide for taking kids fishing, as well as other spots around town that are good for the boat angler and more serious fisherman, all with a shore access theme.

Just have to narrow down the number to 10!

Don't worry, Float - your secrets are safe with me..

All the best,
Justin

When I worked at Billings bridge and the building directly across from it for about 5 years, many a lunch time was spent fishing that very stretch.

I can say for sure there have been some dandies come out of there, including some awesome Pike :!:

About fifteen years ago I used to put a small boat in at Brewers Park and fish from 6 pm untill midnight. I fished that stretch about four times a week . We caught some fish up to thirty pounds. We only saw Musky and bass no pike at all and we put a lot of time in. Pretty hard to get a boat in there now. I fished a lot from shore around the bridge and caught some but we had much better luck from a boat. We had a seventy % success rate from a boat and less than a ten % success rate from shore, Ciscoekid.
