Friday late afternoon Bassin!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Careful, zone 12 (Ottawa River) doesn't open for bass this year until June 30 due to a stupid error in the way the Ontario Ministry worded the guide this year.
The conservation officers may let it slide but I don't know for sure. I've been quite frustrated trying to contact the Ontario Ministry or even an Ontario Conservation officer about the issue. They have isolated themselves from the public very well by both phone and email.

It is June 30th on the Quebec side of the Ottawa River as well. Check out the Zone 25 exceptions to the regulations on the Quebec Ministry web-site.

I found out from the Quebec Ministry that if you are in possession of a Quebec Lisence you may fish for bass as of June 24th... that is Saturday.

I just happen to have a Quebec lisence this year .... so I think I will take advantage of the early start.

Now I'm confused, I'm fishing zone 10, but know what , all the great Bass lakes around me open on the 23rd so maybe I'll play it safe and hit them:D

ya exactly, the river is zone 25 so it opens either the 28 or the 30th depending on where you fish it, but the rest of the outaouais region is zone 10 and is open starting tomorow (23rd).

Opps my bad

You are correct Spinner and thanks for the info.

Good thing I was planning on pre-fishing for tournaments in Area 9 in the province of Ontario anyway.

I did ask that question to some Ministry guys from Quebec that checked my boat last week. I guess it just goes to show that we need to check and know the regulations ourselves.

I am glad that we now have it straight. No fishing the river before June 30th... except for the morons who are fishing in the backbays already for .... pike I guess. Saw ten bass boats exit there this past week on Monday night... asked them how the bass were biting... "We only caught a few... were the answers .... while we were pike fishing." Yeah right

Some people actually do like to fish for pike so maybe give them the benifit of the doubt. I know there are people who blatently break the rules but I like to think most of us dont.

Sure people break the rules but the pike fishing in some of those "back bays" is excellent. If I'm in my bass boat, or my duck boat with surface drive for that matter, throwing spinner baits and large top waters in to the weeds pre-bass season, or during bass season, it's for the pike. Sure you will get the odd bass but I must say deep in those bays, where few travel, some of those beaver huts have huge pike lying in the brush. Hey bass fishing is fun but come on, there’s nothing like a 10+ pound pike smashing through the shallows after your lure :D

Guess I'm a moron cause that is what Wallyboss and I will be doing tomorrow in my boat, looking for pike in the back bays!

Actually guess Wallyboss is a moron by association. :wink
Well and truly hooked!
