What test line for Bass fishing?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Well I returned the VANISH 6lb line and ended up just getting some Trilene XL 10 lb line for now.

I looked at getting the Spiderwire inviable but changed my mind.

Then I almost grabbed the Berkley Fireline in 10lb, which I'm guessing is braided line as that's what it looked like, but I couldn't justifiy 21.00+tax for 10lb and only 125 yrds!

I'm sure it's super line, maybe I will see how I make out with my current line and I've perfected my fishing skills I will switch.

Is anyone using the Fireline?

Cheers

That's what I'm using, and I absolutely love it! Worth the investment in my opinion. However, it's the only braided line I've tried so far.
I hear Spiderwire Stealth, and PowerPro are pretty similar and a bit cheaper too.

i use 50 lb hunter green spiderwire braid.... i dont fish open water much because in my opinion slop with topwater is way more fun i havent had a prob fishing openw ater with it either but thats cuz the water down here is nasty so the green line (about 12 lb mono dia) blends rate in as long as u are a lil gentler u dont miss to many fish... i to would like to c the bass that breaks this stuff without gettin it around sumthing sharp?

I would recommend braided if your going to use one set-up. I personally like power pro but there other good braided choices already mentioned. As for braided line ripping holes in the fish's mouth it also depends on the rod your using. If your not using a rod with a ton of back bone it shouldnt be a problem, myself and others use heavy braid and heavy action rods in thick slop and not often will it rip out of a good sized fish mouth. Yes braid has no stretch but when you use a medium rod or something simular it makes up for some of the lack in stretch.
