This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

weekend report

Post by Mr.J. »

Saturday July 29

I took my neighbour and his son fishing, this was a real treat for me because they don't get to fish much from a boat so it's fun to be able to take someone out who would find fishing from a boat a thrill.

My neighbour wanted to fish the Kemptville creek and I am always open to trying new spot so off we went at 7am Saturday morning.

Well it was hot so I suspected the fishing might be slow. I also found myself with a couple of people who wanted me to teach them some techniques but they were only set up for bass. I am not much of a seasoned bass fisherman, I know how to fish them with spinnerbiats but that's pretty much it so I wasn't a whole heck of a great mentor with these guys throwing stuff into the slop. I didn't get them to use my big lures because their tackle just would be able to handle it.

A couple of hours of having them throw skum frogs and mice into the slop while I fished the outside I finaly got into my 1st fish of the day. It was amazing, my lure hit the water and before it submerged and before I could begin my retrieve I saw a huge attack, I must have hit it on the head and scared it into striking. Brought it in, a nice scrappy and healthy 30 incher.

At least we weren't going to get skunked for the day. We ran into other people fishing bass and they said is was a hard day to fish. A very short time later I got another strike. This was the 1st time I had ever seen a pike jump out of the water horizontaly, I have had many pike this year go air born on my but never have I seen a fish fly horizontaly before, and he went far too. Another scrappy pike, this time only 26 1/2 inches.

A question comes to mind with this fish. It had completely swallowed my lure, a brand new 1st time in the water $15 lure, and I had to take out the bolt cutters and vertualy destroy the lure in order to save the fish, the fish lives and my brand new lure is destroyed, how many others would do the same?

Sunday July 30

Made arrangements the day before to go out with kpin but he never showed up so the only report I have for Sunday is NONE.

Way to go kpin

A day in the life on Sunday.

*Double check alarm clock before bed because it failed to wake me for Sat. mornings fishing trip.

*Awake refreshed, hearing birds singing and beautiful sunlight streaming into the bedroom and think, smiling, "what a great day to go fishing."

* Casually glance at alarm clock to see it 10:03, knowing I have to meet Mr.J at 6:45.

*Jaw drops.

*Alarm clock checked again for correct alarm time setting. Yes, it's correct.

*Face goes blank, all emotion drains from body.

*Casually unplug alarm clock, grab my baseball bat on my way outside to the backyard. (Which really looks nice btw, because it's such a beautifull day, ya know).

*Strategically place alarm clock on back deck.

*Proceed to beat the (%$&$**(!@$ living crap out of the alarm clock.

*Notice transitors and various chunks of plastic flying into neighbors yard, (who happen to have company and seem to be having a garden party), (because it's such a freaking beautiful day, ya know)!

* Neighbors murmer and whisper " yeah we were right, he is a wingnut."

*Spit upon the alarm clock in disgust and proceed inside to call MrJ. and profusely apologize.

* Doorbell rings before I can finish dialing the last few digits of Mr. J's phone number. Relatives from overseas pay me a surprise visit.

*"We know we told you we were going to visit on Wed. but it's just such a freaking, amazingly beautiful day today we thought we'd come by today."

   My sincerest of apologies J
