Basic Electronics - SONAR & GPS

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Perfect timing. I'll be in the market for a FF/GPS combo this spring.

Some areas of interest:
What to look for in a unit
What to stay away from
Brands, warranties and after sale service
Transducers - wide vs. narrow beam
Colour - does it really help
Low, mid and high end units - what do you get

Thanks.

Sheldon,

I am definitely interested. I need to update my eagle magna (10 yrs old at least) and some help weeding through the maze of units would be greatly appreciated. Do they actually make units that show you where the thermocline is? If so, are they affordable? Say 250.00 to 350.00 bucks or in my world, a couple of overtime shifts. One last thing. Stupid friggin head cold.

Thanks,
