Kashwakamak Lake

We are making another fall trip and thought I would ask for some advice on this lake. Can any of you give me some suggestions for bass on this lake? I've read some previous posts but the fishing seems pretty tough up there.

We used to fish Charleston but thought we would try our luck a little further north. We'll be fishing at kashwakamak from Friday to Sunday

Why is it that all the people from PA or VA like Charleston Lake?? Do they publish a lot of ads in the papers down there or what??? Does Wolfe not fish this lake all the time...Charleston that is??...Well it must be good if you will drive all that way.

My dad (69 yrs old) has fished Charleston since he was a little kid. The fishing seems to have really slowed down on Charleston. Hence, the reason to move north. Kashwakamak was suggested to us, so we'll have to see how it goes.

We just spent a week at Fernleigh Lodge (Aug 25-Sept 1) and the only thing we were able to put in the boat outta that lake was 1 Rock Bass & 1 Clam!!!!

I could find the Walleye in the morning & the evening right on bottom in 60' of water but couldn't bring 'em up. One evening tried minnows but they'd just daintily suck 'em off the hook, like feeding time at a petting zoo!!

If you get a chance take the little side trip (15 Minute Hike ) over to Mannerheim Lake, it's hardly fished & I caught 5 Largemouth in a couple of hours there mid-morning I used a plastic frog & cast just to the edge o' the lillypads along the south & west shores, man did they nail that thing!!! Great Fun, Great Fight!!!

I will go on record saying that the bass fishing in Charleston Lake is much better than Kashwakamak Lake. Not even close. Charleston has wolf packs of 3-6 lb smallies. Nothing like that on Kash. Just because its further from the border dosen't mean it has more fish or is lighter fished. Charleston is 3x the size with 10x the shoreline and 50x the structure. If you want smallmouth better than Charleston then find a place on Wolfe Island. For largemouth hard to beat Cranberry/Dog.

Can't say, but I never saw an ad, almontefisher, just heard about it from other people and always wanted to check it out. I only started fishing Charleston a few years back, and we make only a 1 x each spring trek there. Once I saw it, I fell in love with it, though, and as ganman said in his response, I think it kicks butt over Kash, which I've been on as well.

I think part of the initial draw of Charleston, is that it is so close over the border, is relatively huge, offers campgrounds and cottages and has a good variety of gamefish to target. What keeps us revisiting is our modest success there & a desire to keep exploring its potential; but most especially the amazing natural aesthetics of the lake -- it's big & gorgeous.

Maybe the Fish-Hawker's should have a bass derby on Charleston Lake next year..............then almontefisher could come down and check it out.
