O.k I have been holding off on this report because....well it sucks

...We fished all lakes but Redhorse which I will explain in a moment... So we arrived Friday around 12:30pm after having a quick breakfast at 9:00am at the Thru-Way here in Carleton Place and proceeded to wait for one guy until 11:00am...When we arrived at the parking lot we noticed that all the spots were taken already so parking became fun...Got the ski-doos off the trailers and off we go. I was last in line and far behind as I made sure everything was locked up and safe. Came around a corner and there was one buddy with his hood up and tons of smoke pouring out of the engine. I stopped and asked what was wrong and his response was priceless..." I left the E brake on and the sled caught fire...

Oh I almost wet my survival suit...After putting out the fire and letting the brake drum cool down it was time to get to the cottage and start our weekend...One pull of his sled and nothing second pull and.....POW...he punched himself in the head as the pull cord seemed to have been singed a wee bit from the fire and broke the cord...After the second round of " Stop...please stop I am going to wet myself for sure" I went and dropped off what I had in the trailer and got the guys to come help buddy get the sled fixed. It was now 2:30pm and we had McGyvered the sled enough to work the rest of the weekend and finally we were off. Got to the cottage at 2:50pm and saw a heap of snow around the doors that required a solid back and a good shovel technique...Well since there was none around that left it to me...the one with asthma to shovel...3:30PM we were in the cottage and the fire was lit. Got our gear packed and this was the day we were going to Redhorse but because of the time we decided to just fish Mosque....What a bad decision that was...5 guys and all skunked...Day 1 down the drain but day 2 looked promising...or so we thought

...
Day 2...Got up at 4:15am and had breakfast done by 5:30am and off we went for lake number 2...Granite Lake. We arrived at 6:15am and were set up by 6:30am...had my lines in the water no more than 3 minutes and I was playing with my Aqua-Vu when all of a sudden my tip-up goes off, line starts peeling out and my buddy who was 3 ft away grabbed the line and started to bring the fish in...Me not having anything to do with this pushed buddy away and grabbed my line to bring in my fish....Got the fish up out of the hole and it was probably close to 3lbs of splake then..."SNAP" my line broke, the fish went straight for the hole...I went straight in after it with my watch on and filled the hole with snow and slush and lost the biggest splake of my life...

...Fished for about another 6hours with no luck...We were going to hit Redhorse on Day 2 instead of Bullseye as the trail was no where to be seen and we did not feel like hiking up that hill with all of our gear. So I took off first as I was getting stuck in all the top water and everytime I would stop I would get stuck again...So I rip off to shore and park the sled to wait for the guys to show up...About 1 minute after stopping I hear a sled coming down the trail...Oh look it's an OPP sled, hum never seen one of those before...Well now I get to spend 15 minutes with one as he decided to stop and ask for the ownership and insurance. I reach into the back pull out the insurance ( of course I have it..thats my job) and go looking for the ownership...None to be found ( unless he looked on my kitchen table at home where I neatly left it out to bring )

...Now I am done I thought to myself which at that time he asks..." Are you fishing alone??"...No I said my five friends are just on the lake packing up to go, they should be here soon....5 minutes go by and I am out of small talk...10 minutes and I hear the roar of my buddies Artic Cat Thundercat 700cc ripping across the lake at more than the posted speedlimit of 50km/h...Try 100MPH..

...The cop stops all the guys and asks the same question he asked of me and out of 5 guys 2 had everything in order with one guy having nothing on him, 1 having ownership but no insurance...Well we are here for a while I said to one buddy but to our suprise and disbelief the cop asked where we were heading and we said Redhorse until you showed up so now we better go home. He liked that idea and also liked not to see our faces again that weekend...So off we go and Goodbye to Redhorse

...Made it back home and decided to fish Mosque again as it was so close to home we did not worry about seeing Mr. OPP again. Went to a bay called Dog Leg on Mosque and started fishing at 4:00pm...had our lines out and....BANG....POW....ZIPPP... lines going off everywhere...We managed to catch about 50perch all in the 8" range but did not think to keep any cause we were after the trout. 3 hours later we were getting ready to pack it in when my rod almost goes down the hole...I run for it and grab it inches from certain doom...Grab the rod and I can feel the head shakes of this fish...Not a perch for sure...The line peels out I reel in...again and again I play with the fish being very patient as I do not want to loose this guy...Got the fish to the hole and it looked like a nice bow around 4lbs...Tried to get it to turn around at the hole so I could bring it out and off it went again...another minute goes by and back to the spinning of the fish game which did not end to well as when I was about to grab the fish it spooked, ran hard and snapped the line

...After ten minutes of yelling and cursing profanity at the hole which by the way did not respond back

...Grabbed our gear, packed the sled and got ready to go home for the day...Buddy got to his skidoo and pulled the cord...again...again...again and nothing...A quick check to see what was wrong and I noticed what the problem was....He was out of gas

...6:00pm on the lake and no gas...Drove back to the cottage, got some gas, filled the sled and home we went with our tails between our legs and no trout...The rest of the night the guys ribbed me about not just one but two of the nicest fish we had ever seen getting away. Decided that I should not fret over this as it is still a weekend away. Played poker that night and I won a game and that made me feel a bit better...or was it the case of beer me and buddy polished off....11:30pm and time for bed and end of day 2....
Day 3...Well this is it, all or nothing...what do we do guys, risk going to Granite for splake or try another lake near by called Little Mosque which is stocked with Specks....Well Specks it is they said and off we go. Had to break trail to the lake as it looked like no one had been there all year...Got to the lake and zoomed out onto, and into 10" of top water....As I was as usual pulling the trailer with all the gear I started to sink right away and only made it thru the top water by feet...Now all the other guys had to drive thru a hole of water to get out onto the lake abd that was a fun site to see...The Thundercat was like a jetski shooting a rooster tail about 15ft in the air. Got to our spots and fished for 4 hours with not a bite to be seen...Packed up and went back to the cottage to get ready to go. Handed out the skunked mugs to 2 buddies and because I lost the most good fish and caught 11 of the perch I got the trophy this year...yeah me

...The guys will never let me live this one down...I can see it now...2008 Perching Peter wins the trophy...

. So we pack up and head home disgraced and embarassed over the unproductive weekend but vowing to return next year and slaughter those trout. We keep track every year and it seems to be a 2 year cycle for us...We get nothing and then the next year we limit out. Well that is it for now and the terrible report is public...Please don't laught to much and remeber if you go out sleding, bring all the required documents

. Until next year the Mosque Lake 4th Annual Derby is over...I have some pics but nothing really great so I am not posting any here.
