This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Shirley's Bay tips

Post by Troller »

Hi Guys, I am taking four kids ice fishing at Shirley's Bay this weekend I am just wondering how to get them a fish. It does not matter what. I know there are a group of huts out there. How far from shore should I go? I will have another adult with me and I will not be driving on the ice, we will be walking. I will be bringing some live bait.
Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks,
Dave

Drill a hole. Put some bait on your hook. Lower it down. Jiggle it.

If no fish bites it after 20 minutes.

Move.

Drill another hole. Put some bait on your hook. Lower it down. Jiggle it.

Walk out off the ramp and head towards the oranb building on the far shore (Aylmer marina) . Walk out at least 4- 500 yards and you should be in 9- 10 feet of water. You want to be atleast that deep. Fish about 1 foot off the bottom, ( find jigging produces more fish than a still line). You may get the odd perch, or pike in that area, but for the most part, the walleye action should start between an hour before sunset to an hour past so maybe setting up late afternoon might be the best bet so the kids don't get too bored or cold.

Good luck,

CCLad.

Hi Guys,
Thanks for the info and the pms. We decided not to take the kids out on Monday due to the milder weather and the melt. I also did my knee in on Monday morning clearing ice from my driveway. I slipped and in trying not to fall I strained some legiments. :(
We are hoping to make it this weekend.

Hey guys,
We finally all made it out today! We caught a hand full of panfish and had a great day, with great weather and great company. There is nothing like kids and fishing....It brought back a lot of fond memories for me. Some of us got a little wind burn
