Pike Fishing Lakes w/in 5 hours of Sault Ste. Marie?

Greetings!

I'm looking for suggestions regarding good pike (muskie too) fishing waters within 5 hours or so of Sault Ste. Marie. We'll be coming up the first week in July, and leaving from the U.P. of Michigan.

I have a boat with a 40 h.p., so I'll need lakes that allow boats, and preferable have launches that don't require a degree in engineering to utilize

I've only fished the norther region of Manitoba (The Pas, Cranberry Portage area), so I don't know much about Ontario.

Is it a losing battle to try to find productive pike waters in the area I'm looking?

We haven't decided if we're gonna camp or find a cottage, but it will probably be a function of where we decide to go. The fishing is far more important than the lodging, eh!

Any assistance that folks can provide will be most appreciated!

hmmmm....within 5 hours of the Soo?

I think you could probably run into maybe a thousand or so quality pike lakes in that region. Maybe two thousand. ANd no, I am not joking. The pike fishing in that part of the world is phenominal. Any of the lakes off the Trans Canada up in that area have great fish in them and they are not pressured at all.

Try around Batchewana Bay and the Batchewana river. There are huge pike in that particular area. Ask some locals in the area for the hotspots. There are also lots of trophy pike waters along the top of northern superior in the inlets and river mouths. Mouth of Pic river, Pigeon bay at the mouth of pigeon river and Black bay. All good spots. If you stick to Superior the size will well outweigh the inland lakes.

Check Iron Bridge..i hr east of the sault. Just south you have a lake called Bright Lake..Good mix of walleye , bass, pike.. North of Thessalon you will find Gordon and a few other Lakes ..all with Pike and some with cottages to rent.. I will send you some links when I dig them up.

Being from Northern Ontario, I can tell you that you will find Pike anywhere! Heck, you could probably find some in the pot holes on the highways! The northerners usually go out fishing for Wallleye because it poses a bit of a challenge, there's so much Pike! Try to Google this: Pike Ontario - or any similar combination. You'll get a list of lodges and lakes.

Here's a lodge about 1h30 from Sudbury. I've seen the lodge, and they have a nice set-up there. They even offer Blue Pike fishing! (Link at the bottom of the page for details on Blue Pike)

The north channel of Lake Huron has monster pike and is fairly sheltered so it can be fished with a smaller boat.It's about 45 minutes east of the Soo.Just take hgw.17 and get off at the St.Joseph's Island turn off.There is a marins at Richards Landind and one at Hilton Beach as well.The area around Blind River also has excellent pike fishing as well and has plenty of places to launch.The area around Batchewana Island is great too.There are plenty of great smaller inland lakes too.
