Who Ice fishes and what species??
Nipissing
Last winter did Lake Nipissing.
Fished in a heated hut it was a thing of beauty.
Used pickerel rigs and minnows. Caught lots of perch.
Friends used the same rigs and caught pike, an unidentified fish (maybe a bowfin) and whitefish.
I highly recommend whitefish and canned beans....mmmm, so good!

Icing
I'm out there. Soaking up the sun and fighting cabin fever drives me to the ice.
I fish in a Trap Guide, use a Marcum LX-5, an eight inch Jiffy auger, and I mainly jig for eyes.
I am looking forward to less snow this year. I miss being able to drive to my spots. I'm getting too old to be dragging all my gear out... thought I was going to blow a gasket last year

Fish out of a Fish Trap Pro and also have a permanent 8X8 Shack....
Running the Vex FL-20...with an AquaVu Scout Camera...
6 Inch FinnBore Auger...until it hits 12 inches...then the Jiffy come out...
Target mainly perch and crappies....run into the incidental Eye and Bass....a few Laker and Splake trips always make there way into the season as well...
Let's hope for less snow!

Ummm yeah.....
Started ice fishing about 5 or 6 winters back and really quite like it. Didn't think I would but some prime opps in the winter presented themself and so I became an icefishing guy.
I use my Bravo or Renegade or a Cessna to get to my spots. I sit on my Bravo or Renegade or a lawn chair once at my spots. I wear many layers and the best cold weather parka ever made. I usually take hot chocolate or scotch to help warm me bones too.
I'll use my 8" Finbore for soft ice less than 12 inches thick... that's usually last week of December, maybe first week of January. After that the 10" Jiffy with an extension punches through 36-48 inches the rest of the season.
Pike fishing is best. Walleye and brookies OK. Would like to try more for lakers, whitefish and bass in the future.

Running a vex fl8-gp but if santa remember's how good those brownies that I left 10 years ago where , i should be gettin a hummingbird!

Sometimes I ice fish for trout.
Maybe more than some times.

Yeah Im an addict
Hope to get in some eyes and maybe a big gator this season.
Trying to pick between a vex and an ice 45.
Possible frabill shelter.
Currently rock an 86 bravo. Looks like us ice fishers might be the reason there still selling the same sled for over 20 some yrs.

Fishing on softwater to me is just to pass the time between icefishing seasons.
I have a Fishtrap Pro, a Vex FL-18, Marcum underwater cam. I fish for crappies , eyes, pike. Icefished for lakers once and I have to do that again. Hope that there is not as much snow this year as last year. Cause I might have to get a snowmobile instead of getting stuck everywhere in deep snow
Can't wait, hope I'm on as early as last year.

Lakers, Splake and eyes. Bonus pike occasionally caught but not targetted. I sometimes catch perch while fishing for walleye, it is usually a bad sign - catch a perch - time to move, no eyes nearby (my experience)
I use my pop-up hunting blind screwed into the ice if raining or sh$%ty weather, if sunny I sit right out on the ice and the kids play in the hunting blind (a fort).
Quad and walk to sites - depending on snow depth and trail conditions.
Hunting blind folds into a backpack with rods and chair. Built a tow-sled with an old pair of downhill skis - lunch and tackle in the sled - kids ride on top with me pulling it. Waxed skiis make it an easy job to pull.
Memo - don't forget the sunglasses... made that mistake 1x last winter...

Ice fishing time is "Perch'n Time" but I love all the rest too. I fish perch, crappie, walleye, pike, splake, bows and lakers.
I sit my butt in the sorta-comfort of a Fish Trap Scout while dialing in on a Marcum LX-5. The Marcum VS250 cam gets a little use for those clear water low current areas too.
Favorite all round lure is still an orange swedish pimple with a micro minnow but for some reason I haul out about 50lbs of lures for those slow afternoons....gasp!
Warms cloths and even warmer boots along with a thermos of Chicken-In-A-Mug.
Cheers,
Prairieboy
