Jammin jigs?

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Hi RJ!

I quess my point is. The rod used together with small jig ( called marmishka )
should match to small size of marmishka itself.
Otherwise the presentation does not look natural to fish. Keep in mind that winter fish ( read sluggish ) has much more time to investigate the food before digesting. Plus digestion process is not so active as in summer. So it's easier to digest something smaller. That's where marmishka comes to play.

Plus because marmishka is quite small it's very important to have marmishka being balanced itself.

Rod balalayka used differently. Wrist is working mostly to create very small vibrations creating live presentation.

Also let's start using historical names for small jig call it marmishka.
It's not the company name. It's generic name for small jig.
And small rod called balalayka.

yep ... went and purchased one of those "plastic jobbies" too, to get the presentation down to an art. Im thinkin this will work just perfectly for the light biters/inhailers. Will soon see.

I really hope your joking   It's still a hook! Those pesky biters still get reared.

Joco gave me two new palm rods a few years ago and a bunch or really neat jigs to go with them. I have not had them out much...actually, gave one to Nodie last season...Great for shallow water fishing which I never do. I will give them another go this year.

Not trying to take over this thread but I thought about throwing this out there too. I made an order from here last year...Awesome prices as well and they offer a couple of different styles that JamminJigs does not have.

Check out the raindrop and chubby

  And I will be making another order to JamminJigs tonight or tomorrow...not a lot but just a few new patterns that caught my eye :)

Mormyshka are incredible, I bought a handful last winter and you could not get a sharper hook, real metal plating, and man do they swim in a circle. :D

Hi almontefisher/D-mo!

Yes Mormyshka is a generic name of small lure in literature.
It's properly PRONOUNCED in russian language as Marmishka.
Please read this great article
http://www.absoluteastronomy.com/topics/Mormyshka

Note: Properly balanced Mormyshka stays almost horizontally. Not hook down. 2nd it's solid plated not painted.

Balalayka is a generic name for small rod where most of presentation comes from using small wrist movements mostly.

I'm not advocating any company. All I wanted is to find information how to present those jigs.

Even I have great success with Mormyshka.
Their web site is

Wow  ...that is different...My toothbrush is bigger than that thing. I can see that if you hook into a large fish it will not work to well I think. It does look sensitive though.

You can take some whitefish on it.
Keep in mind fish does not have so much energy in winter as in summer. So it can not resist too much. That's why you can use smaller rods.

Smaller rod gives you more byte sensitivity.

Also it's typical to pull out the line itself by hands.

hey igorart

i think the hole purpose of using smaller rods for ice fishing is not the fact that fish dont' have soo much energy in winter as in summer.

just think of this. are you going to fish with a 7 foot one piece bait casting rod. you'll be sitting pretty damn far from your hole. i have seen 3 foot ice rods... but like i can't picture myself fishing out of a 6 inch hole with 7 foot rod lol

shorter rods, quicker hook set? for ice fishing that is.....

So after every couple of fish you sharpen your hook?... ...an average day on Crappie Bay and you'll sharpen your hook 15-20 times...

Igor is 100% on presentation of these tiny jigs....whether you use a balayka or a proper ice pan-fishing rod....extremely light (stretched) line is key...

Looking forward to ice.....kinda......another 5 to 6 weeks in the boat yet!
