If you use a flashlight, either quickly shine away from the dewworm once you locate one or just place a red filter over the lens of the flashlight.

When I was young and we had dogs, we use to have to pick-up their poo-poo in the backyard where they were chained. We buried the s_itt in loomy soil near a big rock. What we found out after a few months, when refilling the hole, is that huge worms would have established in that spot. So with one shovel turn we had enough worms (you can cut the big ones in half or more) to go fishing. Very healthy worms.
When I was young, those that do it for a living usually headed out to the golf courses. They'd wear a light on their head and have a small coffee can or two taped just above their ankles. Both hands would be free for a quick grab and the cans were at ground level to quickly drop them in and grab the next one. You had to be fast but that was the way to get the biggest dew worms.
