Looking to get a sonar for the boat. Just wondering what others have and any feedback good or bad on units. Also, what features should I look for? Can you use these through the ice as well?
Any info is great thanks.
Sonar. Which one?

My father has this one http://store.humminbird.com/humminbird- ... 000-1.html and it has the flasher option on it but to use it on the ice you have to purchase this XI 9 20 Ice Transducer at $82.00...so it adds up but it does alot of different applications. Now my buddy has this http://store.humminbird.com/humminbird- ... 100-1.html and it has some real time imaging but no flasher. It is very accurate as when we were jigging you could see a 1/8 oz jig moving up and down the screen. It was fun making hills with it
. Fishing was slow
But anyways the battery has lasted two outings without a charge so far and ran for 3 hour stints each time.

I'm happy with my X67C, I have the ice machine which comes in the soft case with the puck transducer and battery. I think if you're looking to get a unit that you can use as a portable (or permanent mount) for the softwater season, this is the way to go. For $70 you can add a skimmer transducer and you have a fully functional colour sonar unit. I've only used it on the ice and I've fished everything from perch to lakers and I can't see what else I could want or need from a flasher.
Only complaint I have so far is the zipper for the front flap runs right along the bottom of the unit. Once this gets wet/slushy and then out in to the cold you'll never get it done back up or you'll bust the zipper trying. Having to lug it off the ice without being able to close it could possibly lead to a damaged screen.
If you're looking for something for the boat and the ice this is a good choice for an entry level type unit.
