Wolfe Pack Tries the Ice

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Wolfe Pack Tries the Ice

Post by wolfe »

After Sunday school, church, and a basketball game for each kid (!), we finally got back home late afternoon and decided we just had to get out on the lake...weather was too good to pass up.

Got the gear out of the shed, dressed in our snow stuff and made the walk out on the ice by 4:30 pm. Sun was already low in the sky.

Sorry, no fish pictures! The closest we came to success was a fish on for Tyler that took out a bit of drag before he lost it. It made for an exciting moment or two. He was using a small, salted minnow. I had a couple of tiny taps on a mealworm, but nothing I could connect with. These bites were so light I would not have felt them -- it was just a visual cue by watching the tip of the rod.

Anyhow, we definitely want to get out again. I chatted up a guy who was catching some bluegill and crappies; all small, but he said he had a blast today. He was using waxworms...very small. We'll have to give those a shot next go. We are definitely not adept at ice fishing, but will keep trying so maybe I can deliver a couple of FISH pictures next time!

Hi Wolfe,

Like you said, it was a good day to enjoy what Mother Nature gave us, for sure. And judging by the smiles on the faces of everyone, it looks like all of you enjoyed yourselves. Don't worry about the skunk though, as I'm sure 99 % of us have had them, and the other 1 % are lying.

Micah and Merlin were probably a little jealous, but then again they may have been curled up in a nice warm house having dreams of when they get to go out on the Softwater. :)

You'll get them next time out. And the smiles will only get bigger.

Good Fishing To All

Well, Gorf, I don't like being cold! But even I couldn't resist the lure of the ice on a day like Sunday. (I didn't see any other chickies out there, so I'm still in the gender minority out there!)

I'm sure there are, RJ. (I do sort of wish for a hut and a vex. But the couple of times a year we might go just don't justify the expense.) BUT...Ty and I are not giving up the ghost yet! We are determined to head out (Ty especially) and try some different moves. I augered a few holes, so I don't actually need Bri to come. Lake's right down the hill, so no excuses (except the temp is supposed to bottom out again)!

It seems from what I've heard and read that the bite can be light and tough and we need to use some more petite baits.
