Fishing the Ottawa river accessing from the Quebec

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Fishing the Ottawa river accessing from the Quebec

Post by Bait&Fate »

Guy's & Gal's,

Wondering if anyone can clarify the rules for fishing on the Ottawa River up around Fort Du Portage way. A couple of us from the Ontario side have been invited out this weekend for some crappie fishing, but as I understand it we will be accessing the river from the Quebec side. Question is are we considered to be fishing in Quebec and thus have to get the required licence for that province and what are the rules as far as bait is concerned? I seem to remember something about not being allowed to use bait (minnows) from Ontario. Any info. greatly appreciated.

Cheers :D

If you are fishing the Ottawa River(but on the Que. side of the border) you can use your Ontario license but you have to follow Quebec regulations. So yes you will be allowed 5 lines in the water for each ont. sportfishing license. There is no such thing as a conservation license on the Quebec side so if that is the kind of license you have then you will need to buy a Que. license. Bait live has to be bought on the Quebec side though(I find that kind of stupid but it is in the Quebec regs)
When hell freezes over, I'll be there icefishing!!!

If you can't stand behind our troops,
Please feel free to stand in front of them!!!

This has nothing to do with crappies but I was reading an article in my local cottage paper..(The Equity) and seen this....

A really nice pike caught out of Portage du Fort recently.

Good Luck

I didn't know there were crappies that far up the river. Any body had any success at catching them? We don't see them in the river in the Pembroke area.

I would have guessed the same. Posted a question regarding this a while ago...
