HELP - 1" Gas pipe threading

I have 30" of 1" gas pipe that I am trying to use to mount my fishfinder per advice from Paul Shibata.

The solution is excellent and will mount my fishfinder securly, however I can't find anyone to cut threads.
Home Depot seems to be the only game in town and the machine is broken at both Kanata and Baseline locations.

I need approx 8 - 10" of thread cut.
If anyone can do this today (Monday) call me on 613-256-6162

we sher have a lot off cuting tools at work..mabe i could do it.

any pict off it.?just to no what it is. and you would have to drop and pic up..i am in hull a bit far away frome you hey..

but would be done wed or thursday only.if i can and have the right tools. there

Try calling a plumbing and heating business, they sometimes have pipe threaders. There is one on the Kinburn Side Road:

Terry: Go back to the Home Depots and ask for a threaded end...Then just attach it to your piece. Or try the Home Depot in Carleton Place.

Try Rona, in Merivale near the Canadian Tire, they cut tiles and stuff all the time there. We got some cut there a while back.

They might do it for you but I dunno.......phone and ask!

Home Depot Kanata - Machine broke
Home Depot Baseline - Machine Broke
Home Depot Carleton Place - Won't thread my piece, need to buy a new piece from them - Don't have 1" cutter.

The guy at Boones said if I went to a gas fitting company they would charge me 1 hour labour, about $90.
I spent 4 hours and 100Kms driving round, $90 would be a bargain if I could guarantee I could get the job done.

This is really frustrating.
Oh, well I have the rest of the week to try all the other Home Depots in town.
Still open for someone who knows for sure they can do this.

On ther plus side, I completed a network installation on the boat today, wired all the components for livewell temperature, gas gauge, oil gauge, GPS antenna and new bow mount fish-finder.

Pauls seminar last wednesday was just perfect timing for me.

How about buying a mount made for fish finders? Sounds like it might have saved some hassle.

This is to mount a RAM mount for my fishfinder.
It will be holding a 10" screen so it needs to be stong.

some Home Hardware stores also thread pipe....
you can also buy a cheap threader kit at Princess Auto (pg260 of the catalogue, item #8246514, for $34.99) and do it yourself...
or as someone else suggested you could go to a plumbing/heating shop and have them do it, anyone that's not a crook would do it for you, at a reasonable price if not for nothing($90 is not reasonable)...

Terry,

Glad to see that you've taken the bull by the horns, but what's with the 1" pipe? 3/4" would have been more than enough. Don't forget to keyhole drill through the deck to compensate for the wiring. The beauty ring covering the flange is a pvc end cap cut down. Lastly if the hole is marginally over-sized (use a step Unibit) use electrical tape to bridge the difference. This will ensure that the pipe is sufficiently secured mitigating any lateral movement.
