Walleye / Pike Fishing Gouin Reservoir

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Dad? Is that you?

Great Fishing you say, I have heard nothing but good things about the folks at Nemio.

Thanks for the report.

Dan Smyth wrote:Good report guys. Hope you used up all the cold weather this week as Myself and six other retired sailors are heade up there 6 June for a week.

you may have met 3 of our guys there this week as John McCarthy, Mike Meunier and harry Brake were and still are there until tomorrow. Hope you out fished them.

I will ask you to confirm their lies about the size and numbers they caught when they try to tell them to me next week.
We did meet your friends! Very nice fellows, and typical sailors all! We ran into them on the river several times, had some nice chats. They drink like sailors for sure!

When you are catching fish, the cold is not as severe. Nice catch and it seems you were having a great time.

Hi Macktitler, Looks like you guys had a good trip.
We are thinking about staying in Parent on our upcoming Gouin trip. Does it seem safe around there to park loaded (beer and gas) boats for the evening.

We have been through Parent before and always thought it looked kind of rough and wondered how safe a town it is.

We usually stay in Senneterre (nice) and take the Penetration road to Gouin but have concerns about the last part of this road not being maintained.

Thanks for any advice.

Parent is a pretty rough town but I don't think that you are risking your boats or personal items by staying overnight there anymore than you would if you left it in Gatineau or Downtown Ottawa.

Having said that if you've got the option to drive the extra hour from Parent to the Gouin or stay overnight there, I would make the drive.

You are right, the last 20 kms of road is fairly rough with some medium sized rocks having been kicked up making it a little dicey in spots. However, if you slow down where you need to you will have no problems whatsoever. When we were at Nemio last week Ron was saying that the grater was supposed to be coming through soon, so that should make your drive a little easier.

Have fun on the Gouin. Bring lots of jigs...chartreuse was kicking butt last week.
