Bass Addict wrote:30 fet away from some Dudes Shack in the middle of no where......A little to close for comfort in my opinion...
I think for once I have to agree with BA.....
Consider this.....would you ever mid summer drive up beside someone who is anchored.....get within 30 feet of them and drop anchor?...if so......you're a jackass...
On ice is no different....and for all you know he's in the process of packing his gear up to head out to his shack...
And for comparing summer to ice.....I am more than accomodating to anyone who is fishing from shore or their dock and always give them a real wide berth....after all in the boat I have 50 times more water to fish than them....it's simply courtesy....
so if i drill home holes in the ice and cliam there are my holes...and some comes and fishes close to them when i am not there.....do i have right ti be mad when i come back to my holes??.....

No ...
In that case you would be way way out in left field.....
I don't think fishing 30 feet away from an unoccupied shack is a problem. I do agree with some of the comments on here like...

and when they come over to...

If things were able to be resolved in a civilized manner I would have no problem picking up my stuff and moving to a different location. However, if the guy comes up pounding his chest like a gorilla telling me to get away from his territory, that's a different story. The big problem I have with that is that nobody has the right to approach you and threaten to fight you because you're fishing near their shack. And for that reason alone, I would have stayed right in that spot. Then, depending on how much of an asshat I thought the guy was, I would have...

I don't really think ice fishing can be compared to summer fishing. There is no casting involved so you'll always be fishing the same distance away, and 30 feet is enough in my opinion.

If it was an unoccupied boat anchored in a bay... I will make certain that I don't bounce a cast off his bow... but, if I think there are fish there I am there!
I agree that if it is an occupied territory to give them wide berth. It is kind of like the two guys in a pool rule; If you are alone in a pool and another guy jumps in... you cut the pool in half and don't invade his territory. If he is wearing a Speedo... then you get the heck out of Dodge!!
So unless I read the original post wrong (I am from Quebec!) there was no one there when he settled in to fish the area.
On a side note... it is kind of heart warming seeing you and BA on the same page!!!
I for one think that if you're on a body of water and theres one shack in the middle of no where .... why the heck would you fish 30 ft away from it.... But thats just my opinion ! Doesn't meen you can't do it !

Agreed in 99.99% of situations (leaving 0.01% for some unknown, un-predicted situation)... fishing that close to other boats makes you a bass-hole.

Sorry man, that just doesn't hold water for me... In goose hunting, if you get to the field late, often times you got to move on because someone else is setup... its a simple common-sense/courtesy that if you're slow out of bed, or late home from work or whatever, it's the 'late guys problem' and by no means do you take it out on the people who got there first. I've been the late guy several times (frigg'n slow people I hunt with...grrrr) and if we are early enough we've gone out and spoken to the other group asking about sharing the field... in other situation, it's too late and we'd wreck their hunt by heading into the field so we just quietly move on... It's happened in reverse when we are the early group as well.
I cannot see how this would be any different, other than the shot-guns.
The idea that whoever puts there shack up at first ice (possibly over the most productive part/structure on the lake) owns that territory regardless of if they are actually there or not is completely unacceptable to me. Although it is more complicated than that I agree—it boils down to that in the end.
If they were there fishing and you moved in that close...totally different story.

I'm not saying he's right...all I'm saying is for all we know he's waited all week to go out to his shack and he looks out to see people setting up in its shadow....anyone at that point would say without a doubt....WTF?...I know I would.
30 feet is just too close IMO...if the guy farted in his shack..you'd hear it...
..and if thats the case, and if u r any kind of real man, you would talk nice to the people and say hey man i think u r kind of close to my shack etc.....not shoot your mouth off....I guess some dont have any common and sense, talk rude to me and i will talk rude right back!! talk nice and i will be nice....
have to remeber no ones OWNS the water...i think thats the point poeple have to remeber HERE... and the guy that owns the shack my not come out for two weeks?? so does that mean no one can fish there?? DONT THINK SO!!
I SAY WE GO THERE WITH A POWER AUGER AND DRILL HOLE ALL THE WAY AROUND HIS SHACK 1/2" APART .........if i want to fish 30 feet from a shack i darn well will. you don't own the lake. Go ahead and tell me i can't fish near your shack. you want me to move? go ahead and try moving me.........you will get the surprise of your life ! Some people think they own the earth well guess what!!................bring it on!
