Best Pike lure you go to!!!!!

This is where it's all going on. One can ask for advice or general information or simply chew the fat about fishing tackle, tips, and locations.

Best pike lure :D or best "BIG" pike  lure now that is the question guys.

Wajawannado do? you want to catch lots or do the Tiger Woods thing and go for numbers over one very high "quality" fish.

I know that the perch pattern is very popular.

If you are targeting pike specifically, I personally would recommend the 5/8 oz. model in the magnum series twin willow. They are build a little heftier than the regular bass spinnerbaits, so they will stand up better.

Agreed. I have both the magnum series twin willow 5/8 oz. and the 1 oz. in perch pattern and for whatever reason the 5/8 seems to be more productive. Maybe I just need to fish where the bigger pike are.

I really like the 1 oz. for burning, it's all I use it for. Little too heavy I find for slow rolling. I burn them fast in the fall for musky, although there not really built for musky, they work on them. When I mean fast I mean fast. I use a 7:1 gear ratio bait caster and even then im cranking the handle fast. I find speed is the key ever since I started fishing musky. I have friends who fish musky exclusively who can probably go into a lot more detail on musky fishing, but I use what works and speed has worked well for me in the past couple years. Luck too!

Anyways, the topic is pike I got carried away. So let's talk more favorite pike lures. Buzzbaits for pike can have some explosive action!

Hey Guys,

Growing up on the St. Lawrence river I've had my fair share of battles with fresh water Gators.

My #1 all-time lure is the good ol' fashioned Rapala 7" Original Floating Minnow in the gold/black colour. I pick up alot of Pike straight trolling in 15-20' of water or casting in shallower areas.

Along the shallow shoreline, reeds, etc I like to throw a Clown coloured Husky jerk - lots of times they'll hit it as it hits the water. I recommend the suspending model so you can do the Jim Bitter jerk-jerk-pause retrive and sit it right in their face.

I've also caught quite a few trolling for Walleye with an Orange Reef Runner - deep diver down around 20-30'.

Over the years I've picked up a few on a black bucktail and the williams wobler.

One advantage of the St. Lawrence is that Pike/Walleye season opens a week earlier (May 1, 2010) then the other water bodies in Eastern Ontario. Been fishign the area between Cardinal and Prescott for 15 years and have only been skunked a couple of times and I only use the lures I mentioned above. There are public launches in Cardinal by the legion and there is a pay per use one at the Bridgview Marina in Johnstown - either of these will get you directly into the hot spots!
