The idea of having to complete a test to get a license isnt such a bad idea!
I mean we need to get our boaters card! Whether we fish a pond or small lake or great lake! We even need to know what all buoys mean even if there are none in the lakes we commonly visit! Id rather pay for a fishing license test than a boat license for the most part! I mean I haven't noticed it preventing more boating collisions! I know 3 or 4 lodges or campground that rent boats to people without even caring about boating licenses!
Why not have one for fish identification?
In seasons & out of season fish?
Proper catch and release methods?
Legal size & limits?
I dont see that being a bad idea at all! As long as the money went to supporting our natural resources!
What do you folks think would be good or bad about such a thing?

A fishing license test. I personally think it's a stupid idea.
I haven't picked up a copy of this years fighing regs, but I'll assume it still has pics/drawings of all the fish in the back. The onus is on the license holder to learn the seasons, limits, sanctuary boundries and identify fish properly.
How expensive and screwed up do you think a brainchild of the Ontario Liberals would be to the taxpayers of Ontario?
Yes we take tests for boating, driving and hunting............because you can kill people in those activities. Fishing........not so dangerous. That's why it's OK to give a 3yr old a fishing rod and sit next to daddy or mommy and fish, but not OK to give the 3yr old a Glock, or toss them the keys to the car or boat.

Excessive compulsive dropshot fisherman
Why is it that when someone is holding up a nice sized fish that there is some sort of implied quasi criminal activety involved???
and as far as taking a test for a fishing license, oh yes yes yes I am always looking for ways to pay more, stand in line longer and have the government more involed in my life

The reason fishing licenses arent required for seperate species and such is because its up to the angler to know the RULES period.Ask anyone whos ever been nailed by a CO.The" i didnt know "excuse will Never fly with a CO.You are required to pick up a copy of the regs and know everything in it for the zone you fish.Samr reason a cop wont listen to"i didnt know the limit here was 70"
Dirty....mean....mighty unclean.

I suppose it could have been the editor, but I used my investigative skills and concluded it was the guy with a TOOTH NECKLACE!!!DropShot'r wrote:The point is...........Get all the facts before you judge. I'm sure we all remember the character assault fordson took in here at the hands of some short-fused, self righteous, self-appointed know-it all musky specialist over a reporting mistake the Ottawa paper made in it's article about fordson's fish.

I didn't mean to judge, or come across as a know-it-all, but I also didn't confuse any of the facts. Fact 1, he thought it was a Pike and Fact 2, he kept it because he thought it was a Pike. So my first thought was, anglers should educate themselves, that's all.
