My Eagle Cuda gets disturbance lines while trolling

Post by ptrxml59 »

Hi, I have a portable Eagle Cuta fishfinder. It's brand new so I haven't worked out all the kinks.

The problem I have is that the portable transducer, which is secured to the boat by a suction cup picks up way too much disturbance while I'm trolling. It shows up as long jagged vertical lines (which I assume are caused by the bubbles churned up by the motor and rear of the boat.

I don't have an electric motor so I have to use my 9.9hp for trolling.

The fishfinder is supposed to operate even at high speeds without major disturbances so it really should function fine while I'm trolling.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.

Are you using the 8 AA batteries? I ask because it sounds like electrical interference... My portable 128 will blink when there is too much bubbles... Jagged lines...? Either electrical interference or a messed up wire or transducer?

Make sure that the xducer is clean too... no oil or grease on it..

Bring down the sensitivity and see if that does anything.

Good luck.

try turning it on with the boat on the trailer, you shouldn't get the lines, and should feel a tic tic pulsation from the transducer, unless it is mounted on the skeg of your motor,a 9.9 at idle shouldn't affect it with propwash, i have a cheap eagle 480 beside my furuno on my boat, and at 60-65mph it still maintains good accuracy, ,,,,,,,could be a faulty ducer,or as mentioned above low voltage output to it,i never had one with batteries just hardwired to 12v source.

does this happen all the time or is it intermittent??....Are there other boats around you when you are trolling?..you will definately pick up interference from other boats if they are also using sonars and it shows up as vertical lines on your screen...try turning the motor off and make sure that there are no other boats in the area and see if the noise disappears...if it does then start your motor to see if anything changes...

Where do you have the transducer mounted with the suction cup?....try moving it as far away as possible from the prop.

Thanks for the advice. I'll try it out this weekend and if I'm still having problems I'll give a more detailed update of what's going on.
Again, thanks.
