Boy, you guys are a wealth of info. I don't know what I would do with all my fishin questions if I didn't have this site to go to. And on that note,
does anyone know of a good place to shore fish in the Pickering area.
I normally fish Balsam or Manitouwabing lake but this week work is kinda slow and I am itching to get out.
I don't care what I catch, but it would be nice to be fairly close by.
Thanks

Hey Floatfishin
Thanks for the info. I had some luck in Apr & May with Pike at the mouth of Frenchman's Bay but then everything seemed to die off.
My problem is that I have tried to get close to the Power plant but they won't allow you to get anywhere near the place.
If I am trying to fish the docks etc, it is usually private property and I can't get close enough.
The river openings have yielded a big zero the last two days and I can't seem to find fish anywhere.
Anyway, thanks for the input and hopefully someone else can give me some more insight.
It sounds like you guys in the Ottawa area have some great fishing opportunities.

hey fishin fool....there really is no longer a way to get into the plant from shore to fish....back in the late 70's and 80 we used to be able to sneak in there and tuck down in the rocks....by the west side outflow...and caught monster small mouth and walleye and rainbows there....but with the video camera's put into play....we used to get kicked out of that spot and were threatened with trespassing charges....
we tried wader fishing from the beach but were told that hydro owns the land and lots under the water as well....
finally my buddy and I got a small boat and would anchor it out in that spot to fish...to save a lot of typing let me say the fishing was great...
we came close to a record walleye there back in 1982....just over 19 lbs....
my buddy didnt have the heart to kill it so it was released...
And I managed to break the carp record but didnt even realize it....and released a whopper over 55lbs.....
your best bet is to buy a boat.....or rent but I'm not sure if there is anyone still renting boats around frenchmans bay....
also let me say that the waters there can get very rough and there are serious under currents..to deal with....at the outflow area's that attract fish
good luck on your quest...and play safe
